HC Deb 08 August 1980 vol 990 cc369-70W
Mr. Robert Atkins

asked the Prime Minister why the Old Contemptibles have been prevented from parading as a complete group at the Cenotaph on Remembrance Day; and if she will make a statement.

The Prime Minister

The Royal British Legion is responsible, on behalf of the Home Secretary, for organising the contingent of ex-Service men's associations at the Cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday. I understand that the veterans of the 1914 –18 war have always marched with their own associations. All the associations which take part have been consulted by the Royal British Legion about a request that the 1914 –18 veterans should march as a separate group and the consensus is that there should be no change.
