HC Deb 08 August 1980 vol 990 cc478-9W
Mr. Faulds

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what were the contents of the telegram sent to the Service men in the modern pentathlon team at the Moscow Olympics which they were required to sign as evidence of their having received it and its instructions.

Mr. Pym

The units concerned were informed that Service participants in the Moscow Olympics should not give interviews to the media as these would be likely to involve discussion of politically controversial issues, which is expressly forbidden by Queen's Regulations. They were, however, free, if they so wished, to talk to the media about purely sporting matters.
