HC Deb 08 August 1980 vol 990 cc519-20W
Mr. Rooker

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is his estimate of the net savings in public expenditure which would result from implementation of the proposals outlined in Cmnd. 7864 "Income During Sickness".

Mr. Prentice

The public expenditure saving is estimated to be of the order of £400 million in a full year. It is not possible to make a precise estimate until firm and detailed proposals have been developed following the consultation now taking place.
