asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the amount raised from the stamp duty on the sale of houses in the latest financial year for which figures are available.

It is estimated that the yield of stamp duty from transfers of residential property in 1979–80 was about £225 million. The expected yield in 1980–81 is £240 million.
