§ Mr. Craigenasked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many houses were modernised or rehabilitated in Scotland during the past 12 months in the private sector by the various agencies in the public sector and under the auspices of housing associations; and if he will provide estimates of the likely numbers during the current year.
§ Mr. RifkindProvisional figures based on the latest available information for the period 1 April 1979 to 31 March 1980 are as follows:

As regards private sector improvement works, no distinction can be drawn between modernisation and rehabilitation but, during the period, 8,900 discretionary grants and 160 standard grants were paid.
I have made no comparable estimate of the number of improvements likely to be carried out in the current year.
