§ Mrs. Faithasked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether, in view of the widespread interest in the anti-smoking chewing gum, Nicorette, he will seek the opinion of the advisory committee on borderline substances on this product; and whether he will make it available at National Health Service expense.
§ Dr. VaughanThe Advisory Committee on Borderline Substances is currently examining all the scientific evidence available on "Nicorette" and is also consulting eminent clinicians in the field. Following normal procedures, until the advisory committee is able to make a recommendation, this product will not be available at National Health Service expense. In view of the interest in this product, I shall make an announcement once the advisory committee has given me its recommendation.
