HC Deb 08 August 1980 vol 990 cc476-7W
Mr. Michael McNair-Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether the Air Training Corps is giving consideration to the question of allowing girls to become members of the corps.

Mr. Pattie

I am glad to announce that, with the approval of the Air Force Board, the Air Cadet Council is introducing a trial scheme to admit girls to the ATC. Under this trial scheme, which will run for up to two years, girls will be offered places in selected ATC squadrons which are well-placed to provide facilities for both sexes. Further decisions will be taken in the light of the result of the trial.
