What would be the annual cost of accession to the World Cultural and Natural Heritage Convention; what progress has been made in consulting the dependent territories; and when the United Kingdom intends to ratify the convention.

Lord TREFGARNE

The annual cost of ratification of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage Convention would be not less than 1 per cent. of our annual assessed contribution to UNESCO. This currently amounts to about £30,000, but would be subject in future years to adjustment in line with changes in UNESCO's
