Whether or not the selection of the proposed computer PAYE system for the Inland Revenue on an open tender basis embracing all major manufacturing computer firms in this country would afford more realistic grounds for confidence, in view of the large sums of public money involved, that the system selected represented the best available in respect of performance and price; and if not whether they will give reasons for the adoption of any other procedure for selection of the system.
§ Lord SOAMESThe selection of the computers for the proposed PAYE project will be in accordance with the terms of the Government's computer procurement policy.
