HC Deb 06 August 1980 vol 990 c117W
Mr. Thomas Cox

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will give the present number of (a)men and (b) women, unemployed in the London borough of Wandsworth and the number of school leavers included in this figure.

Mr. Jim Lester

At 10 July, there were 5,047 males and 1,955 females registered as unemployed in the area covered by the Clapham Junction and Tooting employment offices, which closely corresponds to the London borough of Wandsworth. The number of school leavers under 18 years of age included in these figures was 804. The figures are provisional. The Government and the Manpower Services Commission have undertaken that all 1980 school leavers who remain unemployed and all young people who have been unemployed for 12 month or more will be offered places on the youth opportunities programme by the end of March 1981.
