HC Deb 06 August 1980 vol 990 cc204-5W
Dr. Roger Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is his Department's policy on the administration of poliomyelitis immunisation to infants whose parents lack immunity to the disease; and if he will recommend urgently to parents who have never received poliomyelitis immunisation that they take steps to attain such immunity well ahead of the time their children commence their routine immunisation.

Sir George Young

On the recommendation of the joint committee on vaccination and immunisation, the Department's advice to doctors and nurses is that at the time an infant is given oral polio vaccine, the vaccine should be offered to the parents if they are unimmunised, in order to protect them from the very small risk to which they are exposed.
