§ Mr. Adleyasked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will consider the creation of a job mobility allowance as an encouragement to people to move to jobs in other areas; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Jim Lester[pursuant to his reply, 4 August 1980, c. 17]: Financial assistance towards mobility is already provided through the Manpower Services Commission's job search and employment transfer schemes. These schemes are available to help unemployed workers, or those under threat or redundancy, to look for and to move permanently to employment which is beyond normal daily travelling distance of their homes. The schemes are designed to encourage workers, who would not otherwise have moved, to apply for vacancies in other areas. Assistance is not normally available if there are already in the new area unemployed workers who could fill the vacancy.
