asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will list the countries with which new health and social security reciprocal arrangements have been made in the past 10 years; with which countries the United Kingdom is currently seeking to obtain reciprocal arrangements; and if he will make a statement.

Countries with which new health (h) and social security (s) reciprocal arrangements have been reached since 1 August 1970 are as follows:

  • Austria (h and s)
  • Channel Islands (h)
  • Czechoslovakia (h)
  • Finland (h)
  • German Democratic Republic (h)
  • Gibraltar (h and s)
  • Hungary (h)
  • Jamaica (s)
  • Malta (h)
  • Portugal (h and s)
  • Romania (h)
  • Spain (s)
  • USSR (h)

Negotiations are currently taking place on agreements with:

  • Australia (h)
  • Barbados (s)
  • Iceland (h and s)
  • Israel (h)
  • Japan (h)
  • Mauritius (s)
  • Norway (s)
  • Sweden (s)

Social Security arrangements—including health care provisions—with each of the European countries have been largely superseded from 1 April 1973 by the European Community regulations on social security.
