HC Deb 06 August 1980 vol 990 cc131-2W
Mr. Foulkes

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what was the Excise duty levied on the volume of beer, wine and spirits manufactured within the catchment area of the Glasgow outstation of the Laboratory of the Government Chemist in 1979–80.

Mr. David Mitchell

In 1979–80 the provisional net receipts of excise duty on whisky were £570 million. All of this whisky was produced within the catchment area of the Glasgow outstation of the Laboratory of the Government Chemist, but none of it was produced later than 1 April 1977.

Excise duty on wine manufactured within the catchment area would be negligible.
