Friend the Secretary of State for Trade and I met a delegation from the Trades Union Congress on 24 July to discuss a paper prepared by the TUC, setting out a range of proposals designed to limit import penetration in various sectors of manufacturing industry. My understanding is that relatively few of these proposals involved the use of import controls at this stage.
