§ Mr. Cryerasked the Secretary of State for Energy (1) if he will ask for a report from the French authorities on the accident at the Cap La Hague nuclear fuel reprocessing plant; and if he will make a statement;
(2) if he will request the Health and Safety Commission to examine reports of the accident at the Cap La Hague nuclear fuel reprocessing plant and publish its comments on the accident.
§ Mr. Norman LamontI am advised by the Chairman of the Health and Safety Commission that the Nuclear Installations Inspectorate of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is in touch with the French nuclear regulatory authorities about the incident at Cap de la Hague. This contact is being made under the terms of a formal arrangement, concluded between the Health and Safety Executive and the French Government agency concerned, which provides for the exchange of information about nuclear safety matters. I expect to be further advised when the details have been received and evaluated and I intend the result of that evaluation to be made publicly available.
