Friend informed the House on 23 October last year that he had decided not to accede to the Stock Exchange's request for exemption from the Restrictive Trade Practices Act 1976. Since then, however, the Government have introduced amendments to the Act which will enable the Restrictive Practices Court to deal more flexibly with cases before it. This will be of potential benefit to bodies such as the Stock Exchange.
