HC Deb 21 April 1980 vol 983 cc28-9W
Mr. Skeet

asked the Secretary of State for Energy how many power stations in the United Kingdom use waste heat for agricultural, industrial or commercial purposes and the location of any such station.

Mr. Norman Lamont

I am advised by the CEGB that the following projects use waste heat from power stations in England and Wales:

  1. (i) Drax—tomato growing and eel farming
  2. (ii) Wylfa—pilot project and fish farming
  3. (iii) Hinkley Point—fish farming

A small number of power stations are now used primarily for the supply of heat or for research and experimental projects.

Power stations in Scotland and Northern Ireland are the responsibility of my right hon. Friends the Secretaries of State for Scotland and Northern Ireland respectively.
