Mr. Rooker

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will publish figures showing how the extra finances for the provision of kidney machines announced in the Budget Statement of 11 April 1978 were allocated amongst the regional health authorities; and what has been the expenditure by each authority from these funds at the latest convenient date.

Dr. Vaughan

In 1978–79 additional resources of £2.085 million were assigned for the purchase of kidney machines, of which £1.103 million was spent during the year. In 1979–80 additional expenditure equivalent to the balance of £982,000 was authorised, but I do not yet know how much was spent. The information for the regional health authorities is:

and miscellaneous diseases benefit scheme are affected by any provision contained in the Social Security (No. 2) Bill; and if so, if he will give details.
