HC Deb 21 April 1980 vol 983 c58W
Mr. Sproat

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on the latest situation over the redevelopment of Hampden Park.

Mr. Alexander Fletcher

The board of directors of Hampden Park Ltd. has agreed upon a redevelopment programme for Hampden Park and hopes that work will start this summer. A planning application was lodged on 27 March and is now being considered by the planning authority.

The city of Glasgow district council has announced its decision to withdraw financial support from the redevelopment scheme. The Government have made a provisional offer of grant of £5.5 million or 50 per cent., whichever is the less, towards the total cost of £11.3 million at April 1978 prices, and Strathclyde regional council has offered a further £1.13 million. I am discussing with Hampden Park Ltd. its proposals for financing the balance of the cost.
