HC Deb 21 April 1980 vol 983 c40W
Mr. Michael Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what are the proposed reductions in the number of civil servants employed in his Department; and what reductions so far have been carried out.

Mr. David Mitchell

Following Government announcements about economies in the size and cost of the Civil Service, the number of staff in this Department is due to reduce by about 1,570 from the total in post on 1 May 1979. Of that reduction 357 had been achieved by 1 April 1980.
