asked the Secretary of State for Employment what has been the aggregate cost to date to public funds of all work commissioned from, and fees paid to, management consultants by the Clegg Commission, and the aggregate cost, including an appropriate proportion of overheads, of work farmed out by the Commission to the OME.

[pursuant to the reply, 18 April 1980, c. 733]: The aggregate cost of all work commissioned to date from consultants by the comparability commission is £336,000. Work undertaken by the Civil Service Pay Research Unit on behalf of the commission is estimated to have cost £150,000. Work by the Office of Manpower Economics for the commission is estimated to have cost £160,000.
