HC Deb 16 April 1980 vol 982 cc649-50W
Mr. Stanbrook

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he proposes to alter the fees paid by foreign nationals for the issue of police registration certificates under the Immigration Act 1971.

Mr. Raison

These fees, which remained at 25p until 1975, have in recent years been increased with the object of moving towards recovering the cost of the service.

The present fees are as follows:

for normal initial registration £10
for the initial registration of a spouse or child under 18 where a family registers together; or for the issue of a replacement certificate when the original has been lost or is full £3

I have decided to increase the fees to provide full recovery of the admin- istrative costs which registration incurs for the police and which otherwise fall on the taxpayer and ratepayer. Accordingly, I have laid before Parliament regulations under the Immigration Act 1971 increasing the above-mentioned fees with effect from 1 May 1980 to £19 and £10 respectively.
