§ Sir Geoffrey HoweSince President Carter's statement of 7 April, the United States Government have been in close touch with the United Kingdom and other Governments as to how best we might assist in the efforts to secure release of the hostages in Tehran. But these consultations have not touched on the question of the presidential order of 14 November freezing certain Iranian assets held by branches and subsidiaries of United States banks in the United Kingdom. Legal issues arising from the presidential order are matters for the courts to decide.
