HC Deb 14 April 1980 vol 982 c477W
Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many road accidents have resulted from police car pursuits in the last year for which figures are available in total and as a percentage of all accidents; how many casualties resulted from these accidents, categorised as fatal, serious and slight; what is the estimated total damage to property resulting; and what advice is given to police officers regarding public safety when in pursuit.

Mr. Brittan

The statistical information is not available, and could not be obtained without disproportionate cost. Guidance on the use of police vehicles in pursuits is a matter for individual chief officers of police, but police drivers are required to exercise the greatest possible care.
