§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will give, for the longest and most convenient stated period of time, the number of occasions when the Metropolitan Police have stopped London buses to see that they are roadworthy and not defective to the extent of being a danger on the road; and how many prosecutions have ensued.
§ Mr. BrittanI understand from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis that information is not available about the number of occasions when the Metropolitan Police stopped buses. In 1978 in the Metropolitan Police district there were 12 prosecutions for the offence of having a vehicle on the highway in a dangerous condition in which the vehicle was recorded as being a public service vehicle.
