HC Deb 14 April 1980 vol 982 cc511-2W
Mr. Peter Robinson

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is the estimated cost of the prosecution of with responsibility for provision of infrastructure in Northern Ireland. Infrastructure receipts from the fund may therefore be regarded as direct cash additions to the resources of the whole economy of the Province. But the Government's expenditure plans take into account European regional development fund grants in prospect and therefore the European regional development fund receipts for industrial projects benefit the economy in that they allow the Government to finance a larger expenditure programme than would otherwise be the case.

Figures for (i) industrial receipts and (ii) infrastructure receipts in each financial year since the fund's inception to 29 February 1980 are as follows:

Edward Manning Brophy at the La Mon murder trial.

Mr. Alison

As no submissions in relation to fees have yet been made by counsel who appeared for the prosecution, no estimate can be given.

Mr. Peter Robinson

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what was the total estimated cost to public funds of legal aid for Edward Manning Brophy's defence at the La Mon murder trial.

Mr. Alison

As no claim has yet been submitted by the solicitor concerned, no estimate of probable costs can be given at present.
