HC Deb 14 April 1980 vol 982 cc485-6W
Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what representations he has received regarding the establishment of a manufacturing engineering degree course at the Bolton Institute of Technology; how many persons are expected to undertake such a course; if he intends to give his approval to such a course at Bolton; what further developments have now taken place; and if he will make a statement.

Dr. Boyson

I have met the hon. Member together with a member of staff of the Bolton Institute of Technology to discuss the course he refers to. The position is that the course is being considered by the North-Western regional advisory council for further education; if it supports it, it will be con- sidered by regional staff inspectors, acting on behalf of my right hon. and learned Friend, under the terms of this Department's further education circular letter 1/80.
