HC Deb 03 April 1980 vol 982 c358W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, in the light of the fact that almost every Department now takes a month or more to reply to any letter from hon. Members and longer to members of the general public, whether he will take steps to improve the speed of replies.

Mr. St. John-Stevas

I do not know how accurate are the figures which the hon. Member quotes, but I am quite sure that my ministerial colleagues, on whom rests the responsibility for replying to correspondence, are already well aware of the need to respond as promptly as possible.
