HC Deb 02 April 1980 vol 982 cc281-2W
Mr. Best

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what efforts he is making to

schools in Wales, (b) the number of pupils in sixth forms in Wales, expressed both numerically and as a percentage of the total number of pupils, (c) the number of secondary schools in Wales and (d) the average size of class in secondary schools in Wales.

Mr. Nicholas Edwards

The information requested for maintained schools in Wales is as follows:

ensure that schoolchildren in Wales are given adequate careers information and advice.

Mr. Nicholas Edwards

Local education authorities are responsible for careers advice and information. With my right hon. and learned Friend the Secretary of State for Education and Science I am consulting those concerned about a framework for the school curriculum including ways of emphasising careers education. In addition, I already fund 53 local authority posts under the special scheme to strengthen the LEA careers service, and I hope to announce soon proposals for further posts.
