HC Deb 02 April 1980 vol 982 cc287-8W
Mr. William Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what has been the total spent on the official residence of Princess Margaret at Kensington Palace in each of the last 15 years.

Mr. Monro

Expenditure on this apartment in each of the last seven years is shown in the following table:

1973–74 £1,436
1974–75 £2,265
1975–76 £2,733
1976–77 £4,487
1977–78 £4,256
1978–79 £1,717
1979–80 £4,625

(The final figure for the year 1979–80 is not yet available: the amount shown is expenditure up to and including February 1980.)

The records for earlier years are incomplete.

The Department is responsible for the general upkeep of Kensington Palace and all apartments benefit from this. However, such expenditure is not subdivided and it is not possible to attribute a sum to a particular apartment.
