HC Deb 02 April 1980 vol 982 cc280-1W
Dr. Roger Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what proposals are being considered by the various agencies for arresting the continuing upward surge in the unemployment rate for the Lampeter and Cardigan travel-to-work areas.

Mr. Nicholas Edwards

The unemployment rates in both travel-to-work areas fell in March and the rates and numbers of unemployed are broadly the same as they were a year ago—in the case of Lampeter slightly lower. The factory building programmes of the Development Board for Rural Wales and the Welsh Development Agency and the activities of the Manpower Services Commission will continue to assist in providing new jobs for the area.
