§ Mr. Cryerasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will introduce legislation to ensure that waste materials such as wood and paper can be used for ignition and burning in smokeless areas.
§ Mr. FoxSection 11(3)(c) of the Clean Air Act 1956 already enables local authorities making smoke control orders to exempt the use of sticks and paper for ignition. The quantities of smoke that waste materials such as wood and paper produce make them unsuitable for authorisation for general use under section 34(1) of the same Act.
