§ Mr. FairgrieveResearch into the effect of radiation on health is undertaken on a United Kingdom basis notably by the National Radiological Protection Board—NRPB—and the Medical Research Council—MRC. The Scottish Home and Health Department is contributing nearly £200,000 to the running costs of the NRPB in the current financial year; but the MRC is funded by the Department of Education and Science. It is not possible to identify separately the contribution of Scottish taxpayers to the United Kingdom expenditure on this research.
