HC Deb 30 October 1979 vol 972 c506W
Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what long-term action his Department has taken to publicise and promote the uptake of rubella vaccinations.

Sir George Young

In June this year the Department launched a long-term campaign, including appropriate national and local publicity, to increase uptake by intensifying the programme of rubella vaccination which began in 1970.

Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what provision he has made to alerting the public in the event of a rubella epidemic.

Sir George Young

Where necessary, the public will be alerted as they were by a press notice in April this year, but epidemics are difficult to forecast and, in recent publicity, the Department has urged women of child-bearing age who were not vaccinated while at school to see their doctor and ask about vaccination.
