§ Mr. Concannonasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many school crossing wardens there are in the area covered by Mansfield and district council; and if he will list those that are to be affected by the Nottinghamshire county council's proposals to cut expenditure.
§ Mr. Kenneth ClarkeI have been asked to reply.
Arrangements for school crossing patrols in Nottinghamshire are entirely at the discretion of the county council. The service is a valuable safety measure for young children and I am confident that the council will bear this in mind in making any changes. The patrols likely to be affected by, expenditure cuts could best be ascertained from that authority.
