§ Mr. Michael Brownasked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will consider reviewing the policy of not permitting single men in the Royal Navy the opportunity to obtain a loan for house purchase.
§ Mr. SpeedSingle men and women are eligible for an advance of pay to assist house purchase when they are nearing the end of their Service careers. The question of allowing them to participate in the more wide-ranging naval in-Service scheme is now under review. I cannot yet predict the outcome.
