HC Deb 29 October 1979 vol 972 c420W
Mr. Foulkes

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if, in view of the conclusion of the sixth report of the Royal Commission on environmental pollution and its influence upon the public debate on nuclear power in Great Britain, he will issue a paper giving the Government's views on the sixth report.

Mr. David Howell

I have been asked to reply.

This Government have not made an announcement about a nuclear programme, but we believe that continuing nuclear orders will be needed to meet the country's long-term energy requirements. The last Government replied to the sixth report of the Royal Commission on environmental pollution in the White Paper "Nuclear Power and the Environment " (Cmnd. 6820), and many of the recommendations have already been implemented. We shall take account of the sixth report in developing our policy towards nuclear power.
