§ Mr. Altonasked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many babies were 596W delivered at Mill Road maternity hospital, Liverpool, last year; how many patients use the hospital on average each week; and if he will make additional funds available to improve waiting room facilities, 597W so that pregnant women awaiting examination will no longer be required to sit on the floor.
§ Dr. Vaughan2,414 babies were delivered in 1978.
Information about the number of patients who use the hospital is not available in the form requested. The average number of out-patient attendances per week during the third quarter of 1979 was 851.4 and the average daily number of occupied beds during the same quarter was 97.2 and seven special care baby cots.
The allocation of funds for particular purposes is a matter for the Liverpool area health authority (teaching). But, as I stated in my letter of 25 October 1979 to the hon. Member, the authority has plans to improve the waiting area in the near future, and it is considering what other steps can be taken to improve facilities in the clinic.
