HL Deb 27 November 1979 vol 403 c389WA
Lord YOUNG of DARTINGTON

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What results have so far emerged from the electricity industry's trials of self-cancelling token meters, what information about the trials and their progress has so far been made available to the National Consumer Council and the Electricity Consumers' Council and what plans have the Electricity Council for discussing the progress of the trials with consumer representatives.

Lord TREFGARNE

I understand the results of the first two years' trials are being studied and have led to extensions of the trials in two areas following lessons learned earlier. Progress reports on the conduct of the trials have been made from time to time to the area consultative councils. The final results are to be made available to the Policy Studies Institute which is currently reviewing the electricity and gas industries' Code of Practice on the payment of bills. The Electricity Consumers' Council and the National Gas Consumers' Council are co-sponsors of this review with the Electricity Council and the Gas Corporation.
