§ Mr. Clinton Davisasked the Secretary of State for Trade if he will specify the consultations that he undertook with the Civil Aviation Authority and the relevant trade unions, respectively, giving dates of any such meetings, concerning his proposal to terminate controls over the conditions pertaining to the employment of staff by that Authority.
§ Mr. Tebbit[pursuant to his reply, 26 November 1979]: There has been considerable correspondence and discussion with the Civil Aviation Authority about terminating Government control of the
642Wand volume of (a) textiles and (b) clothing traded between the United Kingdom and, respectively, the Six original member States of the EEC and the non-Six in each of the years 1970 to 1978 and the current year to date.
§ Mr. Parkinson[pursuant to his reply, 15 November 1979, c. 769]. Following is the table:
numbers and remuneration of the Authority's staff. I have not yet consulted the relevant trade unions, but I have arranged to meet them on 3 December.
Ministerial control over the numbers and remuneration of staff below the equivalent of assistant secretary was waived by administrative action in 1974; and the terms of the contract of employment to be offered to seconded staff were approved pursuant to paragraph 12(2) of schedule 1 to the Civil Aviation Act 1971 in 1975. Repeal of the control provisions therefore affects the position of only the most senior staff and is of minimal concern to the trade unions.
