§ Mr. John Browneasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether or not the contact level of Aujeszky's disease in pigs is being recorded; and what efforts are being made to ensure that farmers are aware of carrier animals within the national pig herd.
§ Mr. WigginOutbreaks of Aujeszky's disease are recorded in detail and this work has been reinforced by the disease having been made notifiable since 1 August. Owners of infected herds are informed of the consequences of movements of their pigs to other herds. In addition, we take every opportunity to describe at local meetings and in the press the means by which infection is transmitted.
