§ Dr. BoysonMy Department does not collect information about accidents to children on school premises. Prevention of accidents in schools is primarily a matter for local education authorities but Her Majesty's inspectors, in the course of their work, give attention to the need to ensure safe working in schools, and advice is included in the Department's series of safety booklets.
In particular, safety booklet No. 6, "Safety at School: General Advice", suggests that accidents should be reported to schools and local education authorities in accordance with the procedure laid down by them. Accidents are always regrettable and their prevention requires constant vigilance and the exercise of imagination on the part of all concerned. The Department will do its best to keep its advice up-to-date.
