HL Deb 22 November 1979 vol 403 c321WA
Baroness HORNSBY-SMITH

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many countries have arrangements in relation to the export of textile goods to the EEC not covered by the Multifibre Agreement: whether any limits are imposed on the quantities imported, and if so which countries have exceeded these negotiated limits.

Lord TREFGARNE

Seven countries have agreed voluntary restraint arrangements covering their exports of textiles and clothing to the EEC or to the United Kingdom only. No limits are imposed on the imports into the EEC of such goods from these suppliers. The most recent available information suggests that Greece, Spain, Portugal and Tunisia may have exceeded the negotiated limits on their exports to the United Kingdom for one or two of the products covered by the arrangements. Where appropriate, these cases have been taken up with the suppliers concerned on our behalf by the Commission.
