When the difference in fees between home and foreign nationals was introduced, and at what dates these fees were altered, and who were the Secretaries of State for Education and Science at the relevant dates.

The difference in fees, which is based on residential status not nationality, between home and overseas students was first introduced for the academic year 1967–68 by the Right Honourable Anthony Crosland, MP. The years to which subsequent alterations relate and the names of the Secretaries of State for Education and Science responsible for such alterations are set out below:
