asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will take steps to deal with the rising numbers of homeless families.

Mr. Stanley

The homelessness statistics for England for 1978 show no significant increase between the first and second halves of that year in the number of homeless families accepted by local housing authorities. Figures for the first half of 1979 are not yet available.

I am reviewing the operation of the Housing (Homeless Persons) Act.
