§ Q35. Mr. Marlowasked the Prime Minister, in view of the fact that British citizens are not permitted to vote in general elections in the Irish Republic, if she will set up an inquiry into the right of Irish citizens to vote in United Kingdom general elections.
§ The Prime MinisterNo. As I stated in my reply to a question by my hon. Friend the Member for Bridlington (Mr. Townend) on 1 November, the Government have no proposals to change the unique position of Irish citizens living in this country who, although not British subjects, enjoy the privilege of voting in our elections.
