asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many aircrew trained as pilots are serving in the Royal Navy; and how this figure is divided between helicopter and fixed-wing pilots.

The total number of qualified pilots serving in the Royal Navy as at 1 April 1979 was 595. Of this number, 465 are currently engaged in active flying appointments, 70 of the latter on fixed-wing flying.
