HC Deb 19 November 1979 vol 974 cc31-2W
Miss Joan Lestor

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if, in view of the high cost of children's toys, he will seek power to extend the pensioners' Christmas bonus to one-parent families.

Mr. Prentice

No. The groups to whom the bonus is paid, which are the same as in the last year of the previous Administration, seem to be about right. One-parent families will, however, be helped by last week's uprating of social security benefits. The total paid to these families will now be running at a level of about £1,100 million a year.
