Mr. Ernie Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what percentage of 3-year-olds and what percentage of 4-year-olds attend nursery school in each region and island authority.

At September 1978, the most recent date for which information is available, the percentages of 3-year-olds and 4-year-old attending nursery schools and classes were as follows:

had not completed their two-year probationary period required for full registration with the General Teaching Council for Scotland in each of the past three years; and what are the corresponding figures for each regional and island authority.

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the policy of the General Teaching Council for Scotland towards the award of a promoted post in either subject or guidance in secondary schools to those who have not, at the time of appointment, completed their two-year probationary period required for full registration with the General Teaching Council.

The population figures used are those for persons of pensionable age, that is men aged 65 or over and women aged 60 or over.

In Orkney the meals-on-wheels service was withdrawn, and home helps now assist with the preparation of meals for the elderly.
